Mother Gorilla Leaves Twins

Animal behavior fascinates me. I constantly wonder why they do what they do, or better yet, why they make certain decisions. A recent occurrence that makes me ponder gorillas' decision-making process is the transfer of Nyabilondore from Susa's group to Pablo's group

Nyabilondore is the mother of twins--a rare occurrence. (I was fortunate to see Nyabilondore and her twins in the wild last September.) While the youngsters no longer suckle, I wonder why she chose to leave her playful young ones?

It seems like she's enjoying the new group though. She has reunited with her daughter, met her granddaughter and engaged in sexual activity with silverback Cantsbee, the dominant male of Pablo's group.

Sounds to me like she's a Sagittarius.
